The story is about Kosei Arima and Kaori Miyazono. Kosei  won numerous piano competitions while under strict watch of his mother. He was known as the human metronome during that time. Since the death of his mother, he has been unable to hear the sound of his piano or even read music notes. He then meets Kaori through childhood friend Tsubaki.
